On Thursday, April 8, 2021, at 4:00 p.m. EDT, North American Olive Oil Association (NAOOA) Executive Director Joseph R. Profaci and I are teaming up to celebrate 1 million YouTube views of the True Food TV videos “Olive Oil: How Is It Made?” and "The Truth About Olive Oil: Top 5 TIPS + Myths." Everyone is invited to attend this free, fun, interactive event, which includes a live watch party and Q&A.

It’s incredible that more than 1 million people have watched these videos since they were released last April, but I’m not surprised. Olive oil is one of the healthiest and tastiest foods we can eat – and it’s also one of the most misunderstood. For example, a survey conducted by the NAOOA found that olive oil is recognized as the healthiest cooking oil by a wide majority of Americans. (Great!) However, nearly one in three people don’t believe or aren’t sure that olive oil comes from olives. (What?!)

I can tell you from personal experience that olive oil most certainly comes from olives! Although great olive oil is produced in over 60 countries, we shot Olive Oil: How Is It Made?” in Spain, which is the world’s largest producer. We captured the whole process from harvesting to milling, uncovering the story of the olive and how its juice has shaped human history. We’ll be taking a deep dive on this video and answering all of your questions at our upcoming live watch party.

Looking back at that beautiful footage from Spain is a great mini-escape during these travel-restricted pandemic days. And while we’ve been stuck at home, we’ve also been cooking more. As a result, retail olive oil sales are up 30%! With people using more olive oil or even trying it for the first time, we’re seeing a lot of interest in our video, "The Truth About Olive Oil: Top 5 TIPS + Myths,” which teaches you how to choose an olive oil, store it and cook with it. If there are any questions about olive oil we didn’t answer, be sure to ask them on April 8.

The olive tree is the oldest cultivated fruit tree known to humankind. It has been sacred throughout our history – from Noah’s ark to the Olympics. Join us April 8 at 4:00 p.m. EDT to learn how this epic food of myth and history can make you a legend in your own kitchen. Don’t forget to register here. We can’t wait to see you!
